| Clairefontaine notebooks |
[Aug. 19th, 2008|08:34 pm] |
I'm looking for retailers in the city who sell a very specific size of Clairefontaine notebooks: the 21 x 29.7 cm softcover notebook. That's about 8 x 11 inches.
Nota Bene sells Clairefontaine but they don't list this size on their site. Parchemin sells Clairefontaine as well, and may have this size, but I'm wondering where else might sell them. Anyone seen this size around in papeteries or other shops? Thanks in advance! |

| Washer and dryer hook-ups. |

| | curious | ] | Hi guys,
We just moved into our appartment and are first time washer and dryer owners (second hand). We have hooked up the washer to hot and cold and the draining pipe, but can't figure out how to avoid the leaking to the ground of the water when we turn the water on. It mostly goes down the hose... any idea how to fix it? I am thinking duct tape because that makes sense to me, but any suggestions would be great,

I'm going to be getting a house phone and internet connected within 2 weeks. I am looking around at prices and just wanted to hear some peoples' opinions on what they like and prefer.
For the house phone, I really liked Rogers(from past usuage). For the Internet, we need High Speed Internet(for business purposes.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks |

[Aug. 19th, 2008|03:35 pm] |
In a few days my husband and I will be getting a new mattress. We just want to put our old on outside for removal by the city but are unsure if just putting it outside is how it works.
Could you guys please advise me on the proper way to make sure it doesn't sit on our yard forever. Thanks in advance. |

| Jesus Christ, it's a Wedding Photos, get in the car! |
[Aug. 19th, 2008|06:43 am] |
Alright, we got the disk with the wedding photos on it from the photographer.
This is only a small fraction of them, because they are SO FRIGGIN' HUGE that I had to start a whole new Flickr account and I've even spent all of my uploadiness on that one. Seriously, they are huge.
I'm posting them medium sized, but if you'd like to print any of them out in super-hi-res-photo-format, just click on them to go to the page.

| Come and live in our apartment - roommate wanted! |
[Aug. 18th, 2008|11:04 pm] |
It is a lovely 7 ½ on Notre-Dame at Rose-de-Lima; rent is $200 for a large bedroom with closet (…but no window). Utilities not included in rent, and optional internet & land phone with unlimited North American long distance for $18/month. We are near Lionel-Groulx metro, Atwater market, two large grocery stores, the Lachine canal, the Turcot Interchange, a pharmacy, and lots of deps and diners.
The apartment is sunny, with a large kitchen, lots of cabinets, a view of the Farine Five Roses sign, and a living room with balcony access. (Also you can help us pick a colour to go over the terrible mauve in the kitchen!)
We are three fairly geeky, queer- and trans-friendly McGill students, 20ish, two ciswomen and one cisman. We are mostly anglo and collectively study (urban) geography, women’s studies, philosophy, and Russian. Two of us are from Kitchener, Ontario, and one of us is from Encinitas (near San Diego), California. We are prone to accidentally staying up late talking and eating many sugary foods at our kitchen table, having roommate drinking nights, playing board games, undertaking construction projects, and various combinations thereof. Our apartment also contains for your enjoyment: a dolly, a drill, a large tea stash, and communal bookshelves. All of us are somewhat socially awkward and sometimes judgmental, but very friendly! One of us is allergic to cats, but reptiles are strongly encouraged.
You are around our own age, preferably not excessively hip, and up for participating in roommate fun times. You are a considerate roommate as well (regular dishwashing, making little noise while people are sleeping, keeping common spaces fairly clean). The three of us are vegetarian, share groceries and frequently cook and eat together; we hope to find someone who is into that too. We’re also hoping for a fairly environmentally conscious flatmate (turning off lights, keeping the heater low, vermicomposting, using cloth shopping bags, et cetera). Socially inept roommates welcome; you will feel right at home!
If any or all of this sounds good to you, get in touch ASAP; inconveniently for everyone two of us will be out of town for the last week of August, so the sooner the better! |

| Update: Claiming Taxi Fare to the STM |
[Aug. 18th, 2008|10:47 pm] |
(See original post here)
Hi Montreal! Thought I'd just let you all know that I'll be on Daybreak tomorrow talking about my situation at around 7:15. It's on CBC Radio One (88.5FM). Hopefully everything will go well. And since a couple people wanted to hear about what happened with the actual claim, I'll let you all know!
BUT I also figured I'd take a second to urge ALL of you to call the STM and complain when your bus doesn't show up. Remember though, they DO state that it could be 3 minutes before or after the scheduled time. My general rule is 15 - 20 minutes (depending on the weather). Make sure the STM knows what's going on. If no one complains, nothing will ever change! My new thing personally is to get the complaint number, so else for all you know it was never entered. All you have to do is call 514-STM-INFO, dial 8 for English, 4 for the administration and 1 for complaints / suggestions / comments.
update!! Hear the interview here!! |

Hey everyone...Hope tonight's downpour didn't dampen anyone's plans :)
Anyways, I'm planning on heading up to Quebec city for a saturday....You know, just to get out of Montreal..relax before the whole school thing starts up again. Apart from walking around and what not...any suggestions on what to do on a saturday? It's just been way too many years since i've been there and frankly have no clue what to do to pass the time.
thanks! |

| looking for a mini fridge... |
[Aug. 18th, 2008|08:47 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | hopeful | ] | Okay, so, any of you have (or know where one could find) a little mini fridge that they want to get rid of? My Mom needs one to hold students' medication (& her own lunches too), but the budget just isn't there, so she's hoping to find one FREE. I'm already keeping my eye out on freecycle, but thought I'd try asking here. If you've got one (or can get one), please comment here, or email me at misskitty . 79 @ gmail . com |

| Half-working bike. |
[Aug. 18th, 2008|08:48 pm] |
On Thursday, I was riding my bike on Villeneuve when I got hit by a car. I'm OK, but the car hit my back wheel and now it's curved, one of the spikes is broken, and it won't turn anymore, making it impossible to ride it. The bike is pretty much useless to me at this point, so I was wondering if anyone could do something with it and would want it. It's a mountain bike and the front wheel and frame are intact, I believe. Simply let me know and maybe we could meet up so I could give you the key to the lock.
Thanks! |

| P.G. Wodehouse - Three men and a maid |
[Aug. 18th, 2008|11:23 pm] |

P.G. Wodehouse – Three men and a maid (08-040)
For the first time in my life I have read a full book not on paper. The website www.dailylit.com will send you a daily E-mail with a part of a book. The first book I chose to read this way was this book by Wodehouse. 71 mails it took me to read the whole book. From March 13, until June 19, before it was over.
I had deliberately chosen Wodehouse for this experiment. I am a man of paper. I love a book in my hand. I adore strolling through bookshops; you can do me no bigger favour than giving me plenty of time and money in a second hand bookshop. Obviously I read from a screen on a daily basis. But that’s newspapers, weblogs, information, pictures, movie chunks. Not real stories, not literature.
Wodehouse has been praised by many authors I have read. He is a comic genius apparently. So I decided to read a book by Wodehouse. And it was worth it. I am still not sure if reading via E-mail will be a thing that gets a regular place in my life, but reading Wodehouse certainly will.
The story about three different man courting the same young lady is hilarious and you can see where many English author got his inspiration. Many television comedies wouldn’t have existed had not Wodehouse been such a popular writer ages ago.
Quote: “As Sam looked at her the thought crossed his mind that here was a wonderful chance of making the most tremendous impression on this girl. What would she not think of a man who, reckless of his own safety, dived in and went boldly to the rescue?” (Mail 9/71)
